Learn How Dental Implant(s) Can Last For A Long Time

Updated: May 8, 2020

One of the common misconceptions of dental implants is that dental implant is long lasting and indestructible.

A dental implant is a component that is surgically placed in the jawbone as a support of a dental prosthesis (in the form of a crown, bridge or denture). Dental implant* can be one of the options for those who has a missing tooth / teeth.

*not including mini dental implant which acts as a Temporary Anchorage Device (TAD) in some Orthodontic treatment.

Dental implant can last a very long time as long as it is taken care of just like how one would take care of their natural teeth, such as doing the following:

1. Visit the dentist once every 6 months. Yes, dental implants need regular dental maintenance too!

2. Practice good oral hygiene habits, such as flossing your teeth and brushing your teeth for two minutes twice a day.

3. Treat the dental implants just like your natural teeth, you would not use your natural teeth to bite down hard on nuts, shellfish, or use them to bite open bottle caps.

4. For smokers, it is advisable to quit smoking, as it will compromise on the longevity of the dental implant.

Take care of the dental implants like how you take care of your natural teeth, we are sure your dental implants will last you a long time and of course in return, it will reward you with many years of beautiful smile and function.
